Developmental Psychology
There are so many different fascinating debates within psychology, and some are still unknown due to the complexity of the brain and its common behavioral factors. One of these highly thought out debates includes nature vs. nurture information. What I mean by that is nature vs. nurture in psychology is concerning due to the precise aspects of behavioral traits are a known product of either inherited (genetic) or acquired (learned) characteristics. Nature focuses all on the biological or the psychoanalysis approach of psychology such as genetics, hormonal, neurochemical explanations of behavior, innate drives of sex and aggression. While on the other end of the spectrum you have nurtured. This includes your behavior is learned from your environment through conditioning, or humanism which emphasizes basic physical needs and society influences the person's self-concept of life.
Some examples of Nature are:
1. Musical Talent, according to the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of Helsinki unveiled research that suggested that those with great musical talent are gifted with specific genetic mutation! These mutations allow the acceleration to release serotonin in order to help their ability to comprehend and learn and aid creative thinking within the brain.
2. The differences in our coding genes in humans determine the different traits that each of us have. Some are more dominant that others such as height, eye color, hair color, etc. However, some questions are still being researched whether or not more abstract attributes like personality, intelligence, and sexual orentation. It is said that nature "our genetics" determine our behavior our personality traits and those abilities are made when we are conceived and born into the world.
3. The Bowlby's attachment explains that children come into the world pre-programmed biologically to form certain attachments with others due to helping them survive. Bowlby believed that attachment behaviors are instinctive and will be activated by any conditions that seem to threaten that survival mode such as separation anxiety, insecurities, and certain fears that may play into this.
Some examples of Nurture:
1. Nurture refers to the different types of environmental impacts which include our early childhood experiences, and how we are raised and our social relationships between people and our surrounding cultures. There was a study done on two identical twins that were separated at birth and completely established different personalities but still were able to keep similar characteristics.
2. Nurture plays a big role in how we grow in the world. My parents were both from broken families at a very young age and to hear about how they grew and learned through this hard disadvantages in live was inspiring and made me think how incrediblly blessed. This goes hand-in-hand with how early childhood trageties affect children in their nurturing and behavioral patterns.
