About My Interest in Psychology

Psychology is very intricate when it comes to the mental activity and how it affects human behavior. When I was in high school I was involved in an extracurricular class called P.A.L.S. (Peer Assistance and Leadership) This was a class that allowed high school juniors and seniors to leave off-campus and travel to the local elementary and intermediate schools to pal up with a younger student. Some of these students just wanted a friend to help them with their homework, to talk to, to play with them at recess, etc. This rewarding program gave me the opportunity to broaden my experience and help children build their social skills, study skills, and be a friend to listen to them about how their day went.

This program was more about the school psychological factor of how students work socially, emotionally, and academically, and if one of those areas needed improvement I was there to help and guide them along the way. School psychologists mainly work with groups of students who have behavioral problems, academic difficulties, disabilities, or other issues. Most school psychologists work in schools, universities, or state agencies, and many of them may open up their own private practice and consult young patients. These psychologists are normally making $72,910 a year working in elementary or secondary schools.

This type of psychology is interesting to me due to the fact that I get to watch students grow in a positive manner with the help of my guidance.

  2. It's awesome to see why you'd be passionate about this topic. It's always rewarding seeing mankind helping each other out. Next time perhaps some more information about how much schooling is needed, some details about other jobs that can be obtained, and maybe some pictures. Otherwise great job!

  3. I love the P.A.L.S program. We had this at my school (as I am sure they do at most schools) I was not peronally in it but I know how much the kids benefited from it. The students in the program got to get experience working with kids and talking with people. And I know that the students you work with really appreciate having someone there for them to talk to. Loved the blog!!

  4. Hi carrolyn, i love what you talked about in your post. When i was a senior in high school i was the elementary office aid and i got paired up with a little girl. I met with her everyday 7th and 8th period and we did projects, read and i helped her with her homework. I got to watch her better herself and become a smart, hardworking girl and make it through the year. When i read through your post this was the first thing that had crossed my mind.
