Multiculturalism is the presence of or support for the existence of several distinct cultural or ethnic groups within a society. By that definition, I think of a community that is established by a commonality between people. Growing up in San Antonio, I was introduced to a wide variety of culture at a very young age. While being addressed to it at a very young age, I learned how to exceed the limits of how different people are and the cultures/backgrounds they come from. As I got to high school, I wanted to join as many groups as I could to be involved in school activities besides volleyball. So I decided to join a group called Key Club. Key Club was able to join together groups of students that wanted to provide community service throughout the local places of the community. This program allowed me to not only grow as a person, but it helped me understand the humility of myself as a human being just like everyone else. It doesn't matter what your background is, it only matters how you expel your gratitude towards others in a world of different people and their stories. Thank you!
Whats up San Antonio homie, good blog. I love how diverse San Antonio really is. I feel we really have the ability to learn so many different cultures the more we go out into the city and meet new people. The Key Club sounded like it made a great impact on you. I like how the main focus for the club was to better the community overall. Once again, great job.
ReplyDeleteCarolynn,
ReplyDeleteI loved how you shared your own story, so interesting. I love San Antonio, it is filled with so much diversity and I think it is great that you joined that club in highschool. It is always amazing to see people giving back and voulunteering which I think we should do more of nowadays to get familiar with all the diversity around us. Awesome blog!
